I am standing in my kitchen.
The bench is covered in crumbs and a sticky circle where a juice box leaked.
The washing machine is thumping a rhythmic, heavy beat against the wall.
And inside?
Inside, there is only static.

I try to pray.
I reach for a thought, a word, a "Dear God," but it feels like reaching into a bag of dry sand.
Empty. Grit. Nothing to hold onto.

I’m the woman who runs a ministry about prayer.
I’m the one who tells you to be Anchored in Prayer.
But today? Today, my anchor feels like it’s dragging across a barren sea floor.

If you are there, too,
If your "quiet time" has become a "silent time",
I want you to know I am writing this to my own soul as much as yours.
We are not failing.
We are just dry.
And sometimes, the desert is exactly where the frequency shifts.

Why the Well Runs Dry

We often think spiritual dryness is a sign of a "bad heart."
We think we’ve lost our way.
But usually, it’s not a lack of love.
It’s a frequency of static that has drowned out the song.

Here are 10 honest, un-ironed reasons why your prayer life might feel like a desert right now:

1. The Exhaustion of the Body

You are a Mum. A wife. An entrepreneur.
You are pouring out from a vessel that hasn't been refilled in weeks.
When the body is depleted, the spirit feels heavy.
God made you with nerves and muscles and a need for sleep.
Sometimes, your "dryness" is actually just deep, bone-weary tiredness.

2. The Noise of the World

Our minds are rarely quiet.
The ping of a notification. The news cycle. The mental load of school forms and tax returns.
This creates a "frequency of static."
It’s hard to hear the still, small voice when the world is shouting in 4K.

3. The Comparison Trap

You saw a post.
A woman with a highlighted Bible, a perfect latte, and a three-hour morning routine.
You looked at your lukewarm tea and your five-minute window before the kids woke up.
And you felt… disqualified.
Comparison is the thief of the "stolen moment."

4. The Knot of Resentment

Is there a knot in your heart?
A frustration with your husband that you haven't spoken?
A bitterness toward a friend who seems to have it "easier"?
Resentment is like a kink in the garden hose.
The water is there, but it can’t reach the roots.

5. The "To-Do" List Mentality

We treat God like a grocery list.
Please do this. Please fix that. Amen.
When prayer becomes a transaction, it loses its soul.
We aren't connecting; we’re just managing.

6. The Small Compromises

It’s rarely a "big" thing.
It’s the extra hour of mindless scrolling instead of resting.
It’s the harsh word we didn’t apologise for.
These small shifts pull us out of alignment with the Spirit.
The frequency gets fuzzy.

7. The Silent Season

Sometimes, the dryness is a gift from God.
It feels like a desert, but it’s actually a training ground.
He is teaching you to trust His Word when you can’t feel His Presence.
He is moving from the "milk" of feelings to the "meat" of faith.

8. Intellectualising the Divine

We read about Him.
We study the Greek words.
We listen to the podcasts.
But we haven't actually spoken to Him in days.
Your brain is full, but your heart is thirsty.

9. Disconnection from Self

As Mums, we often lose our own "silhouette."
We become "Mum," "Boss," "Wife."
If you don't know who you are today, it’s hard to bring your real self to God.
You’re trying to pray as a "perfect version" of yourself, but God is waiting for the real, messy you.

10. Waiting for the "Perfect" Moment

We tell ourselves we will pray "when things settle down."
When the kids are in school.
When the business is launched.
But the "perfect" hour never comes.
If we don't learn to pray in the "stolen moments," we won't pray at all.

Shifting the Frequency: 3 Tiny Ways to Reconnect

You don't need a mountain top.
You don't need a cathedral.
You just need a "stolen moment" to re-tune your heart.

1. The Breath Prayer

This is for the moments when you are folding the third load of laundry or sitting in school-pickup traffic.
Inhale: Lord, I am yours.
Exhale: Give me your peace.
Repeat it until the static starts to clear.
It’s a physical reminder that His Spirit is as close as the air in your lungs.

2. The One-Verse Anchor

Forget the three-chapter study today.
Pick one verse. One.
Write it on a post-it note and stick it to the fridge.
Carry it like a stone in your pocket.
Read it when you’re making the kids’ lunches.
Let that one truth be your anchor for the next 24 hours.

3. The 5-Minute "Frequency Re-tune"

Set a timer on your phone for five minutes.
Sit.
Don't ask for anything.
Don't list your worries.
Just sit and acknowledge that He is there.
"God, I'm here. I'm dry. But I'm here."
Honesty is the fastest way back to intimacy.

The Scripture Anchor

"O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water." : Psalm 63:1

David wrote this in a literal desert.
His body was tired. His life was in danger.
And yet, his thirst was his invitation.
Your dryness isn't a sign of distance: it's your soul's way of saying, "I need the Living Water."

A Prayer for the Thirsty Soul

Lord,
I’m coming to You with a heart that feels a little like parchment.
I’m tired, I’m distracted, and the noise of my life is very loud.
I confess that I’ve tried to fix the dryness on my own: with more work, more scrolling, or more guilt.
Today, I just stop.
I bring the crumbs, the laundry, and the heavy list to You.
Shift my frequency.
Wash away the static.
Remind me that You are my Anchor, even when I can’t feel the rope.
Give me the grace to find You in the stolen moments today.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Stay tuned, sister.
The rain is coming.
